Enjoy Library Fest to Mark National Medical Library Month
On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, from 3 to 6 p.m., to mark National Medical Library Month, the staff of the D. Samuel Gottesman Library will host their second annual celebratory Library Fest: Yes, We Do That! They invite all members of the Einstein community to come to the first floor of Forchheimer, where you can join the fun while learning what their staff members can do for you and about the many wonderful resources the library has available for our use.
“When the Medical Library Association initiated October as National Medical Librarians Month, we were excited to take advantage of this “holiday,” but we felt the word “librarians” excluded our support staff who play such a vital role in making our library’s resources and services available to our campus community,” said Racheline Habousha, director of the library. “So, at Einstein, we mark National Medical Library Month, to reflect the contributions and be more inclusive of all our staff.”
At the Library Fest, you’ll be able to meet reps for various library resources, who will offer on-site demos and assist students with the use of their products—which you can then, in turn, put to good use with your studies and other projects.
“We have a multitude of resources available,” said Racheline. “We invite you to come learn about them and see how they can enhance or advance your work or studies.”
Whether you’re interested in evidence-based, point-of-care tools, such as Dynamed, uCentral, and UpToDate; full-text ejournals and ebooks from Science Direct, Access Medicine, and Ovid; data mapping software from PolicyMap; or systematic reviews supported by librarian expertise and Covidence, there’s something for everyone.
“We’ve also got publishing and writing tips and tools, can assist you in understanding publication metrics or how to gain quick access to full-text articles,” noted Aurelia Minuti, head of research and education.
The Library Fest also offers our campus community members the opportunity to meet librarians from our local branch of the NY Public Library (NYPL). Learn about the myriad resources available through the NYPL and register for your own card during their NYPL card-a-thon.
“We’re looking forward to seeing you and will have food free Einstein swag, and a raffle for you to enjoy as well,” said Nancy Glassman, assistant director of the library. “Yes, we do that, too, as it’s not a fest without some fun goodies!”
