Supporting Kidney Disease Patients
On a chilly November morning, members of the nephrology division took part in an annual National Kidney Foundation (NDK) Kidney Walk with a goal of raising $2,000. (The team of walkers raised $2,020, in total.)
“We take part every year since the money raised for the foundation supports programs and services that benefit our renal patients,” noted Dr. Michael Ross, professor of medicine and of developmental and molecular biology at Einstein and nephrology division chief at Montefiore. “That includes assisting them with information critical to their well-being and getting on the transplant registry, should that be needed.”
Among other services the NDK offers patients with kidney disease are a patient support helpline, peer mentoring, an NDK patient network offering a nationwide research registry, and information on diet, exercise, vaccination, insurance, and more.
