Join Montefiore Einstein Moving Forward for the Juneteenth 5K!
On June 19, 2024, a group of Einstein runners and walkers will take part in the Juneteeth 5K in Central Park. Their team, called Einstein Montefiore Moving Forward, is taking part to support the establishment of the Harlem Center, a 10-year effort started by New York-centered, community-based organizations whose aim is to increase the capacity for addressing unmet needs and gaps in service delivery for the LGBTQ+ community.
Join Montefiore Einstein Moving Forward on Wednesday, June 19, for a fun run/walk/roll in Central Park!
“We hope members of the Einstein community will join us for this special event,” said Dr. Lynne Holden, senior associate dean for the office of diversity enhancement (ODE). “We’ve teamed with student affairs (OSA), student life (OSL), the graduate division, and the Belfer Institute to support registration for up to 30 students and postdocs.”
Assembling Our Team
Interested M.D. and Ph.D. students and postdocs can fill out this form. ODE will support five medical and five Ph.D. students who are members of ODE-supported student organizations, OSA/OSL will support 10 additional medical students, and the graduate division and Belfer Institute will sponsor 10 postdoctoral fellows.
“We will notify those given a sponsored slot, but encourage everyone to consider joining us,” noted Dr. Daniel Correa, associate dean for diversity enhancement. Those not selected for sponsorship can join the team by registering under the ‘Pay what you can 5K Run/Walk/Roll’ rate or paying the full $25 registration fee. Faculty and staff also are encouraged to register. “If you register by Wednesday, May 29, you can get your name on your run/walk/roll bib,” said Dr. Correa.
Late registration will be permitted until 11 a.m. on the day of the event. And those unable to attend can still support the team by making a donation.
At the Event
On the day of the Juneteenth run/walk/roll, participants are encouraged to meet at noon, outside the Engineers Gate (at 90th Street and Fifth Avenue ) for packet pickup. Then, Einstein Montefiore Moving Forward team members will assemble in front of the Guggenheim Museum (1071 Fifth Avenue) at 12:15 p.m., for a team photo. The event organizers will begin their welcoming remarks at 12:30 p.m., and we’ll be on our way! The route finishes at the site of Seneca Village, where a vibrant, thriving community of free Blacks lived during the mid-19th century, located between West 82nd and West 89th Streets, before being razed to create Central Park.
For those wishing to use bag check, it will be available between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and will be located at a finish line gathering area, a short walk from the starting line. Event organizers recommend that you avoid having valuables in checked bags. Any items not picked up by the 3 p.m. close time will be donated.
“We’re grateful to OSA, OSL, the graduate division, Belfer Institute, and our Montefiore DEI and BRG colleagues for joining us in offering this fun opportunity,” said Dr. Holden. “We hope you’ll join us!”
