Einstein Community Comes Together for Pi Day and Giving Day
The Einstein community commemorated Pi Day, our namesake’s 146th birthday, and Einstein Giving Day with a week-long series of events leading up to 3.14. The celebration culminated in the annual pi recitation competition and pie baking contest.

Fnu (Aodeng) Aodengtuya at the Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center won the recitation contest by reciting pi to 174 digits. For her victory, Aodeng received $314 and a pi-symbol pie dish. Ph.D. student Bill Zhu came in second with 144 digits and M.D. student Christine Yoon finished third with 84 digits. Anne Bresnick, Ph.D, associate dean for postdoctoral studies, and Victoria Freedman, Ph.D., associate dean for graduate programs in biomedical sciences, judged the competition.
The winning maple pecan pie
M.D. students Sayak Gosh and Vivian Kim showed off their baking skills, winning the pie competition with their maple pecan pie. In addition to bragging rights, they also received a pi-symbol pie dish.
Giving Day was also a success with 286 donations totaling $247,135 coming in. The generous donations will help advance the critical initiatives, learning opportunities, and research that make Einstein an exceptional medical school and a renowned research institution.
