Exhibit Showcases Medical Student Research
Each year, the office of medical student research works with hundreds of medical students, connecting them with research mentors and identifying potential projects in fields that include basic and translational science, clinical investigation, global health, medical education, bioethics and community-based learning. Each spring, examples of these projects are showcased along Einstein’s Main Street in the annual Medical Student Poster Exhibit.
Aneesh Pirlamarla explains his research of patients with kidney stones to Dr. Ellie Schoenbaum. He conducted his projects with fellow medical student Ethan Fram, under the mentorship of Drs. Joshua Stern and Joseph Di Vito, Jr. 
Kathryn Hu describes her SOAR project, “Gray Matter Volume Associated with Spatial Navigation in Older Adults,” to some fellow students. She received mentoring from Drs. Helena Blumen, Joe Verghese and Richard Lipton.Dr. Ellie Schoenbaum, director of medical student research, noted, “The exhibit offers an opportunity for Einstein’s medical students to present the work they’ve been conducting with faculty members in the Einstein-Montefiore community, as well as with collaborators at other institutions across the nation.”
This year’s exhibit detailed a sampling of the research and community projects conducted by Einstein students, with approximately 40 posters lining the main hallway of the Forchheimer building throughout April.
Dr. Schoenbaum added, “The reception allows students to have meaningful discussions with colleagues and peers about their projects, in a safe and professional academic setting.”
