Appreciation Day Brings Together Einstein Community
On a balmy August day, with temperature and humidity in the 90s, human resources hosted the annual Einstein Appreciation Day in the Central Courtyard.

The "party" included lawn games, dancing and the chance to win one of 57 raffle prizes donated by College of Medicine leadership and departments. Emcee-supreme Cookie Kurtz, manager of creative services, called out the names of winners. Prizes included gift cards to nearly 20 local merchants and a grand-prize of two tickets to a New York Rangers game.
Thanks to 18 staff members from food services—including chefs, cooks, food handlers and managers—1,700 staff, faculty and students lined up for the buffet-style barbecue where 44 volunteers from administration and the dean's office dished out a combination of 4,000 hotdogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, turkey patties and chicken legs. They quenched their thirst 1,200 bottles of water, 800 Dr. Brown's sodas and 300 pounds-worth of watermelon, while polishing off 75 pounds of cookies for dessert.
"Putting on the picnic is truly a team effort, and it's fun to coordinate such a wonderful, memorable event each year," said Robert Cancellieri, director of employee relations, who teamed with his human resources colleagues to host the event. "We're grateful for the support and generosity of individuals and departments who demonstrated their appreciation by providing prizes. And we're thankful for the efforts of the food services staff, who kept cooking throughout the heat of the afternoon."
