Celebrating National Medical Library Month
This October marks the 20th anniversary of National Medical Librarians Month (NMLM). Celebrated throughout the country, NMLM serves to raise awareness of the important role that health information professionals play within medical and research institutions. “At Einstein, we’ve altered the name to National Medical Library Month to be inclusive of all our library staff,” explained Aurelia Minuti, who is head of reference and educational services at Einstein’s D. Samuel Gottesman Library.

To commemorate this special month at Einstein, the library staff has planned a variety of activities and events throughout October that showcase services and resources that are useful to students, faculty and staff. These include:
- Weekly raffles to determine your library savvy and offer a chance at winning prizes;
- Edible treats and library-branded giveaways;
- Demonstrations by vendors that showcase helpful tools and resources you may wish to use;
- Amnesty Week for those a bit tardy in returning overdue books or journals
The month also includes two noteworthy events:
- A New York Public Library (NYPL) card-a-thon on Thursday, October 19, when NYPL staff will be on campus to register members of the Einstein community for a new library card. (You can get a card if you live or work in New York City – we all qualify!); and
- A presentation on Tuesday, October 24, featuring invited speaker Dr. Miranda Gray, of Faculty of 1000, who will discuss careers in science publishing, the open science movement and Faculty of 1000 resources available at Einstein’s library.
Ms. Minuti noted, “As you can imagine, we’re very popular during October, but we’d love to see even more of you. So, come on by to learn about all the various library resources and services and grab some fun prizes as well!”
