Events Offer Appreciation of Our Postdocs
On September 26, 2017, Einstein's Belfer Institute for Advanced Biomedical Studies celebrated its eighth annual Postdoc Appreciation Day in recognition of National Postdoc Appreciation Week, a nationwide annual event in appreciation of postdoctoral contributions to science. The Belfer Institute arranged a special reception for postdocs held in the atrium at the Price Center/Block Research Pavilion.
At this social-cum-professional gathering, Einstein’s postdoctoral fellows celebrate their research and discuss their day-to-day activities. They also share their challenges and goals, and respective future plans they may pursue.
At Einstein, nearly 300 postdocs from around the world play a critical role in moving research forward. “The event allows us to acknowledge their contributions to the work that takes place in our labs, said Dr. Anne Bresnick, director of the Belfer Institute.
Earlier in the week, and in collaboration with the Graduate Division, the Belfer Institute held two career guidance seminars: "Your CV: Putting Your Best Foot Forward" on Monday, September 18; and "Spotlight on Non-academic Careers!" on Tuesday, September 19, which featured a panel of Einstein alumni in non-academic careers. Each was attended by more than 100 postdocs and graduate students, and offered an excellent opportunity for attendees to interact with the experts whose work encompassed a variety of careers.
“While the week’s events were connected to a national program aimed at recognizing postdocs annually, we should be mindful that any day is a good day to appreciate the expertise and dedication that postdocs bring to the laboratory, their involvement in the training of graduate students and lab technicians and their efforts to ensure that lab activities function smoothly,” noted Dr. Bresnick.
