Qualification Jubilation Celebrates Academic Milestones
In June, an enthusiastic crowd of graduate students, their families, friends, and mentors gathered in Lubin Dining Hall for the sixth annual Qualification Jubilation celebration. Co-sponsored by the graduate division and the Einstein Alumni Association, the annual ceremony has become a yearly summer tradition honoring the successful completion of graduate students’ qualifying exams and the receipt of the master’s degree.

The ceremony began with opening remarks from Dr. Victoria Freedman, associate dean for graduate programs, followed by introductory comments by Dr. Allen M. Spiegel, the Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz Dean. Keeping with tradition, students invited a faculty member to deliver the keynote speech for their milestone event; this year the honor went to Dr. Dianne Cox, professor of anatomy and structural biology, and of developmental and molecular biology.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, 32 Ph.D. candidates received their master's degree diplomas.
“It is a nice way to celebrate passing the qualifying exam, earning a master's degree, and officially becoming Ph.D. candidates,” said Karishma Smart, who was among the honorees. “And it serves as a mini-reunion following our busy schedules over the past couple of years.”
“Qualification Jubilation is a great opportunity for us to meet as a community, celebrate our achievements and exchange stories and experiences as we embark on our next endeavors,” added Jennifer Kimble, a fellow honoree.
