Enjoy a Slice of Pie While Reciting Pi
March 14 is an obvious date to celebrate Pi, the numeral represented by 3.14. At Einstein, the date is extra-special since it also happens to be the birthday of our namesake, Albert Einstein.
To mark the occasion, for the third consecutive year, human resources is hosting a Pi Day celebration, with free slices of pie and hot beverages offered in the Einstein Café seating area along Main Street, in Forchheimer, on Thursday, March 14, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The festivities will also include the third annual Pi-recitation competition and the second annual pie-eating contest.
"While last year, contestants had to work their way through an entire pie, this year we're making it a little easier with the winner only having to finish a slice of pie," said Robert Cancellieri, director of employee relations. "We learned that the whole pie was a bit daunting for contestants last year."
This year's competitors in the recitation contest will have to work on their memorization to top last year's winner, medical student Elisa Karp, who recited Pi to the 106th decimal. That was nearly 40 places farther than the 2017 champion, medical student Amy Kang, who recited to the 67th decimal at the inaugural competition. “In our eyes, everyone who steps up and attempts to recite Pi is a champion,” said Yvonne Ramirez, vice president of human resources.
There will be fun prizes for all contestants, and interesting trivia and games as well. So, be sure to head to Main Street between 1:30 and 3 p.m. on Thursday!
