One Health Approach to Global Health Centers
On December 3 and 4, 2018, Einstein’s Global Health Center hosted its biennial conference; the focus this year was practice of a one-health approach to establishing and running global health centers. The term “one health” refers to the ways in which a community designs its programs and performs research so that several sectors work together and combine knowledge from their respective fields to achieve better public health outcomes.
The conference provided a platform for experts from a broad range of perspectives--including infectious diseases, internal medicine, veterinary health, environmental health and public health—to share insights on solving the complex health challenges in our world. Topics from this year’s event ranged from refugee´s health to the monitoring the Earth system, with special emphasis on the diagnosing and developing new therapies for emerging infectious diseases such as Rift Valley fever, tuberculosis and other mycobacteria.
Jill Raufman, associate director of Einstein’s center, coordinated with EcoHealth Alliance to host the event. You can view video from the conference in the player above.
