26th Annual Paul Henkind Day Welcomes Dr. Eve Higginbotham
There’s still time to attend the 26th annual Paul Henkind Day, which is underway today at Wave Hill. Eve Higginbotham, M.D., vice dean for diversity and inclusion, as well as professor of ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania, will deliver the 39th annual George N. Wise Memorial Lecture.
Dr. Higginbotham’s keynote, which begins at 2:20 p.m., will address “Unpacking the Hidden Factors Shaping the Care of Our Patients.” The symposium, hosted by Einstein and Montefiore’s department of ophthalmology and visual sciences, offers on-site registration, and tuition is free of charge for all students, residents, and fellows.
A historical figure in American medicine, Dr. Higginbotham is the first African-American woman to head an ophthalmology department in the United States. Her past leadership roles include senior vice president and executive dean for health sciences at Howard University and dean and senior vice president for academic affairs at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta.
Wave Hill is located at 675 West 252nd Street, in the Bronx.
