EH&S donated 2,500 N95 respirators to help put a dent in the shortage of supplies needed by our Montefiore colleagues treating those with COVID-19
An Einstein “SHOUTout!” goes to our department of environmental health and safety (EH&S), whose job it is to safeguard people, property, and the environment at the College of Medicine. Last week, the department donated 2,500 respirators to Montefiore.
Respirators (known as N95s) and other personal protective equipment (PPE) are critical to pro-tecting caregivers while they administer to patients and masks are helpful in preventing patients from spreading germs. N95s, in particular, have been in short supply and are costly. Thanks to the EH&S team for taking their role in assuring safety to a higher level.
While Governor Cuomo has recently purchased and provided additional PPE to the state’s many hospitals, it’s likely there will be continuing demand for these items, which include masks, res-pirators, and gloves. Does your department or lab have such items that could be pressed into ac-tive duty to protect our colleagues in the health system as they tend to the sickest COVID-19 patients?
