EH&S Donates Available Respirators to Montefiore
Einstein “SHOUTout!” is a new Around Campus feature that spotlights inspiring acts and ideas, as well as admirable accomplishments during these viral COVID-19 times. Have you witnessed generosity, kindness, foresight, strength, ingenuity, clear thinking, or quick action? Do you or someone you know have a new twist on doing a favorite activity from home—whether it’s using modern technology or old-fashioned methodology? Share your wisdom for surviving and thriving during COVID-19 by emailing notification@einsteinmed.org. We’ll consider all submissions for a possible Einstein SHOUTout! story on Inside Einstein.
An Einstein “SHOUTout!” goes to our department of environmental health and safety (EH&S), whose job it is to safeguard people, property, and the environment at the College of Medicine. Last week, the department donated 2,500 respirators to Montefiore.
Respirators (known as N95s) and other personal protective equipment (PPE) are critical to pro-tecting caregivers while they administer to patients and masks are helpful in preventing patients from spreading germs. N95s, in particular, have been in short supply and are costly. Thanks to the EH&S team for taking their role in assuring safety to a higher level.
While Governor Cuomo has recently purchased and provided additional PPE to the state’s many hospitals, it’s likely there will be continuing demand for these items, which include masks, res-pirators, and gloves. Does your department or lab have such items that could be pressed into ac-tive duty to protect our colleagues in the health system as they tend to the sickest COVID-19 patients? View our COVID-19 DONATION page to learn the items most in need, where to bring your donations, and to set up a drop-off time.
The page will be updated regularly to reflect current needs, so be sure to check back from time to time. We can all do our part to pitch in during these challenging times.
