Housekeeping: Beyond Spotless
This Einstein SHOUTout! goes to our dedicated and diligent 50-person housekeeping department. Housekeeping staff members are exceeding their own high standards of spotlessness by attaining a new level of clean. This small army works day and night to not only remove everyday dirt and dust but also to kill germs on 21 “high-touch” areas, such as light switches, doorknobs, and chair arms.
“We disinfect twice a day using EPA-approved products,” noted Fernando Quiles, director of operations. “But before we do, we first clean all surfaces.”
In their thorough cleaning and disinfecting process, housekeeping staff use rags to expose the surface to be disinfected; they then apply disinfectants with “dwell times”—how long they sit on a surface—from one to five minutes, explained Mr. Quiles. Then they use wipes for the final swipe.
Another way housekeeping has contributed to the health and safety of the Einstein community is by adding 58 hand-sanitizing dispensers to those already stationed around campus, for a total of 107.
So, if you see a member of the housekeeping staff around campus, thank them for all they’re doing to keep us safe at work! (Without shaking hands and keeping a safe “social distance,” of course.)
