Celebrating Bright Futures Exemplified by Match and Marmur
Ceremonies and large-group gatherings may be on hold, but not jubilation and honors celebrating important milestones for our medical and graduate students.
Making Their Match
On Match Day, held on Friday, March 20, Einstein’s Class of 2020 learned by email where they’ll begin their residencies this coming July. This year, 179 medical students, or 97 percent of the class, matched to a residency; 33 of them will receive their post-graduate training in the Montefiore Health System. The top matching discipline was internal medicine with 38 students, followed by pediatrics, emergency medicine, and obstetrics/gynecology. This Einstein SHOUTout! commends the students for their creative efforts to celebrate virtually via Twitter and other social media.
Stellar Research
And winners of our Graduate Program’s annual Marmur Awards, recognizing research excellence among our Ph.D. candidates, also earn an Einstein SHOUTout! The trio, who would have presented their published work at a ceremony planned for March 16, instead received virtual congratulations when the event had to be postponed. This year’s honorees are MSTP students Jeetayu Biswas and Justin Wheat, who each were mentored by Dr. Robert Singer (and in Justin’s case, also Dr. Ulrich Steidl), and Hannah Monday, whose mentor is Dr. Pablo Castillo.
Our new SHOUTout! feature spotlights amazing acts and inspiring ideas for these viral COVID-19 times. If you’ve witnessed generosity, kindness, foresight, strength, ingenuity, clear thinking, or quick action that illustrate the human spirit at its best, email notification@einsteinmed.org and let us know. The result could be an Einstein SHOUTout!
