Institute for Animal Studies: The Front Lines of Research
This Einstein SHOUTout! goes to our diligent staff at the Institute for Animal Studies (IAS). While it’s possible to do many jobs from home during the global COVID-19 pandemic, caring for thousands of our smallest research team members isn’t one of them.
In spite of the chaos connected to COVID-19, the 43-person IAS staff—whose efforts help to keep research going on our Jack and Pearl Resnick Campus—have been able to maintain the highest standard of care for the important contributors to research under their charge.
“Our dedicated animal care staff have carried out the essential tasks required to maintain those thousands under our care, despite the obvious risks to themselves and their families,” said Lawrence Herbst, director of IAS.
Throughout its four facilities, IAS staff have maintained the institute’s regular schedule of feeding, watering, and cage cleaning. They’re also taking additional precautions to prevent exhaustion among another important group of contributors to research—themselves.
IAS staffers are truly on the front lines of research and deserve our appreciation for continuing to provide great care. If you cross paths with a member of the IAS staff, be sure to thank them for their hard work. (While keeping the recommended safe “physical distance,” of course!)
