Lending a Helpful Hand with 1,000 Pairs of Gloves
An Einstein “SHOUTout!” goes to Susan Pache, senior secretary in the office of development, who found important personal protective equipment (PPE) in a local dollar store. Sue, as she’s known to her Einstein colleagues, purchased a case of 1,000 pairs of disposable gloves and donated them to help keep caregivers at Montefiore safely covered.
The blue gloves (known as nitrile exam gloves) and other PPE are critical to protecting healthcare workers as they administer to patients. Many types of PPE—including respirators, gowns, and safety glasses—are in great demand as our region responds to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sue was shopping in the Harding Park neighborhood of the Bronx when she came across the gloves. She bought 10 boxes in a variety of sizes, each containing 100 pairs of gloves, and donated them to Montefiore through Einstein’s environmental health & safety office (EH&S).
There is a continued demand for PPE at hospitals in the area. Sue’s shopping experience demonstrates that one could come across useful items in unexpected locations. View our COVID-19 DONATIONS page to learn the items most in need, where to bring or send your donations, or to set up a drop-off time with EH&S.
