Adam Levy to Chair Committee on Admissions

Adam Levy, M.D., was recently appointed chair of Einstein’s Committee on Admissions. Dr. Levy has served as a co-chair of the committee since 2006 and was selected by his fellow co-chairs for this leadership role. He succeeds Siobhan Dolan, M.D., M.P.H., who served as chair of the Committee on Admissions since 2014.
Each year, Dr. Levy and his admissions committee colleagues collectively screen more than 9,000 applicants to the College of Medicine, conduct interviews, and present their recommendations for acceptance to the full committee and, ultimately, to the dean. As chair, Dr. Levy will lead these discussions and decision-making around the selection of our incoming classes of future physicians and researchers.
"Adam has demonstrated his dedication to the education of our students in both the medical and graduate programs and to selecting the members of our student body who reflect the excellence, intelligence, compassion, and diversity that we seek in our candidates for degrees at Einstein," said Dr. Gordon F. Tomaselli, the Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz Dean at Einstein. "As chair, he will lead the Committee in shaping the future direction of our admissions goals."
Noreen Kerrigan, associate dean for admissions, shared the following email from Dr. Levy, sent on Monday evening, April 6, 2020 at 9:23 PM—at the apex of the COVID-19 pandemic—noting that it embodies Dr. Levy’s spirit and leadership. In his email, he wrote: “…working tonight with two pediatric residents who graduated from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and we are covering a converted CHAM floor that now is solely for adults with COVID. They are phenomenal in their intellect, compassion, enthusiasm, grit and poise. If anyone ever needs to be inspired or encouraged, they should experience these doctors in action."
As professor of pediatrics at Einstein, Dr. Levy has a strong interest in medical education and was inducted into the Davidoff Society in 2017. He previously served for 10 years as director of the pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship training program at Montefiore and is currently chair of Montefiore’s Graduate Medical Education Committee.
Of his new role as admissions committee chair, he said, “The Committee on Admissions has a great responsibility as we strive to select an exceptional group of future physicians to best represent and serve our community. The level of commitment to our mission that is shared by the committee members has always been an inspiration, and we are looking forward to welcoming another remarkable class to Einstein.”
At Montefiore, Dr. Levy is the former director of pediatric neuro-oncology at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. He also was the principal investigator for the Children’s Oncology Group, the nation's largest consortium of childhood cancer researchers, and recently led an international clinical trial for children with recurrent brain tumors. Dr. Levy’s clinical interests focus on brain tumors, particularly new drugs and treatment plans for children with brain tumors. He is currently vice chair of clinical affairs and strategy in the department of pediatrics.
A graduate of Cornell University, Dr. Levy received his medical degree from NYU School of Medicine and was a chief resident in pediatrics at Mount Sinai Medical Center. He then completed his fellowship and was chief fellow in pediatric hematology and oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and New York Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He was nominated Attending Physician of the Year in pediatrics at NYU Medical Center before joining Montefiore and Einstein in 2004.
