Save the Date: Dennis Shields Prize Virtual Presentation
On Wednesday, November 11, 2020, from 10 to 11 a.m. the Belfer Institute for Advanced Biomedical Studies invites you to tune in via Zoom to the awards and seminar presentations of its Dennis Shields Postdoctoral Research Prizes, which are presented annually to postdocs whose research and published work exemplify excellence in the field. This year's winners are Rebecca Brown, Ph.D. (Cell Biology), and Maria Eugenia, Ph.D. and Denise Haslwanter, Ph.D. (Microbiology & Immunology).
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the event will take place virtually, and may be accessed via this webinar link: https://einsteinmed.zoom.us/j/97960952668.
"It's so important that we maintain traditions such as this event, which recognizes postdoc excellence at Einstein," said Anne Bresnick, Ph.D., director of the Belfer Institute. "Dennis was a champion for postdocs and the prizes honor his memory and the legacy he established as the first director of the institute."
Dr. Brown will present her work "Multiple Capsid Protein Binding Sites Mediate Selective Packaging of the Alphavirus Genomic RNA," completed in the laboratory of Dr. Margaret Kielian, and Drs. Dieterle and Haslwanter will share their research, "A Sheep in Wolf’s Clothing: Surrogate Viral System for Rapid Discovery and Characterization of COVID-19 Therapeutics," conducted in the laboratory of Dr. Kartik Chandran. They will make their presentations from the LeFrak Auditorium, where Dean Gordon F. Tomaselli, M.D., also will present each with their award.
Dr. Bresnick added, "This year, the event is being held in conjunction with a postdoc recruitment event, Postdocs SCORE! Registrants to Postdocs SCORE! will also be able to take part virtually. We're pleased to have them join us."
