Join Einstein's Virtual Race Against Racism
The office of alumni relations recently announced its inaugural Virtual Race against Racism 5K, a partnership with the office of diversity and inclusion to support our institution's diversity efforts. You can make a positive impact by taking part in this virtual 5K run or walk, joining more than 125 racers and walkers that include alumni, faculty, staff, students, and parents.
Your participation and support underscore our community’s collective and ongoing commitment to fostering an academic environment that is socially just, equitable, inclusive, accessible, and diverse.
“We’ve seen an enthusiastic response from the community thus far,” said Min Um-Mandhyan, director of alumni relations. “We’ve even had to order more t-shirts!”
How Can I Participate?
You can sign up to run or walk a distance of five kilometers (5K—which is equivalent to 3.1 miles) here, which you can complete between Thursday, November 26 and Monday, November 30, anytime, wherever you may be.
Min noted, “All participants receive a race t-shirt. Those who have yet to sign up and are located locally can pick up theirs on Tuesday, November 24, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., on the seventh floor of the Block Building. If you’re not near Einstein and unable to pick up your t-shirt, we will mail it to you after the race.”
The top three race winners and the top two social media post winners will be announced post-race. Use #EinsteinRaceAgainstRacism and/or #Einstein5K to share photos from your race experience on Instagram and/or Facebook. The top three race times and the top two social media posters (i.e. those that get the highest number of “likes”) will win a special prize from the office of alumni relations.
How Does the Virtual 5K Race Work?
You register to take part in the Virtual Race against Racism 5K, which includes a $35 entry fee that will support Einstein’s Diversity Fund. Then, you determine the course you would like to walk or run, making sure it measures 5K, and complete it on any date between Thursday, November 26 and Monday, November 30, 2020. You can map a course using this online resource.
After you complete your 5K run or walk, post your time here.
Who Can Do the Virtual 5K Race?
“Everyone is welcome to run or walk,” said Min. “Invite your family and friends to join you—and encourage or challenge your fellow alumni or colleagues to outrun or outwalk you!”
