A Quick Fix for Removing Errant Email Addresses
At the end of 2020, Einstein eliminated the old “@einstein.yu.edu” suffix at the end of our email addresses, and we were told that emails sent to our former email address would no longer be forwarded. While we’ve all made the effort to inform our outside correspondents, it’s also important to be mindful that our internal email address cache may still include old “@einstein.yu.edu” addresses for colleagues who we frequently contact.
If you haven’t already cleared your cache of these old addresses, you run the risk of accidentally selecting a “dead” address, which will lead to a bounce-back message and problems with group emails when others attempt to “reply all” and are unaware of the errant address.
Fortunately, it’s easy to clear such “legacy addresses” if one is among those displayed when you select recipients for an email. First, make sure to look at the address that pops up when you begin to type an address—does it have “@einsteinmed.org” or “@einstein.yu.edu” at the end? If the latter, simply click on the “x” on the far right of the address to remove it. Then, double-check to be sure the address you are selecting says “@einsteinmed.org” before hitting “SEND.”
In any instances in which only an “@einstein.yu.edu” address appears, simply delete that incorrect address (for example, karen.gardner@einstein.yu.edu) and type in the correct one (in this instance, “karen.gardner@einsteinmed.org"). Doing that once will add your contact’s @einsteinmed.org address to your name cache.
