Einstein Community Shows Off Their “Maskery” at Keeping COVID-19 Safe
During the first 100 days of the Biden/Harris administration, when President Joseph Biden asked Americans to don their masks in a bid to stem the spread of COVID-19—which at that time had taken the lives of over 400,000 in our nation—Einstein held a Mask Parade, inviting members of the campus community to show off their favorite face coverings.
Twenty-two individuals posted 42 images across five categories—most original, most humorous, most protective, most fashionable, and most patriot/team-spirited—with votes earned by entrants determining the top two vote getters for each. Those individuals, some of whom won in multiple categories, will receive a $25 Starbucks gift card for their win (or for each winning category). They also have our thanks and admiration for sharing their creativity, Einstein-strong spirit, and ingenuity.
An “Einstein Mask Parade” banner now hangs in the entry lobby to the Forchheimer building showcasing the participants. “While having to wear masks has been a bit wearing on us all over time, the participants remind us that keeping it fun can make a tedious task more bearable—especially when the goal is keeping one another safe and healthy,” noted Yvonne Ramirez, vice president of human resources, whose department is providing the prizes.
The Einstein Mask Parade winners are as follows:
- Most original: Daniele Roffi; Mohd Nauman
- Most humorous: Luz Leone; Mitchell Veith
- Most fashionable: Luz Leone; Diane Safer
- Most protective: Daniele Roffi; Melissa Epstein
- Most patriotic/team-spirited: Guillermo Olivo; Luz Leone
The Mask Parade also serves to remind us that our community’s efforts to wear masks during the past 14 months has played a large part in keeping our campus members safe. As our COVID-19 dashboard demonstrates, our diligence concerning masks and other safety measures has kept the occurrence of COVID-19 among our employees and students quite low. We can all take pride in these outcomes and let them motivate us to hang in there as we’re asked to continue to wear masks and social distancing even as more of us get fully vaccinated.
