Take Part in Einstein’s Run For Resilience Virtual 5K
Through its Run for Resilience Virtual 5K, Einstein’s office of alumni relations is offering our campus community a way to run or walk to make a positive impact this fall.
The virtual 5K was established last year as a way for members of our extended Einstein community (on campus, at affiliate institutions, and among alumni) to get outside for some fresh air while also helping a good cause—the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Diversity Fund.
“By running, you represent the strength and resilience of our community over the last two years,” noted Min Um-Mandhyan, director of alumni relations. She added, “Your generosity will enhance Einstein's diversity and inclusion programming.”
You can participate by running or walking a distance of five kilometers (3.1 miles) anytime between Friday, November 26 and Monday, November 29. This can be done wherever you are—on a treadmill, around a track, or in your local park. You can even map a course.
Upon registration, you will receive a link to share your time results, which the alumni relations staff will reveal post-race. All participants will receive a race t-shirt and the top three runners will receive trophies. Two other individuals, with the most liked social media postings of themselves or teammates in the race shirt—using #EinsteinRunForResilience or #Einstein5K—will receive new Einstein swag!
Your registration fee of $35 will benefit the Diversity Fund, which provides assistance to and supports activities for current diverse medical students to help ensure their success at Einstein.
The Fund also supplements ongoing pipeline development and programs for individuals underrepresented in medicine who have an interest in pursuing careers in the field. To learn more, please visit the office of diversity & inclusion website.
“We are so grateful that Einstein alumni are supporting our diverse students with this year’s 5K run,” said Dr. Nerys Benfield, senior associate dean for diversity & inclusion. “During these challenging times our students from diverse backgrounds are inspiring in their resilience, their optimism, and their commitment to serve. We look forward to their success and the alumni’s support will make this possible.”
“You can register on your own or with others,” added Daniel Mularz, associate director of alumni relations. “Invite your family, team up with former classmates, or run as a department. The more, the merrier!”
He added, “If you prefer to donate to the Diversity Fund without running, that’s possible too. Just visit our giving page.”
