Recognizing an Influential Danish Researcher
Birgit Satir, Ph.D., professor emerita of anatomy and structural biology, recently received an honorary D.Sci. from her alma mater, the University of Copenhagen, which is among the highest academic honors that can be conferred.
The Faculty of Science representing the University's department of biology presented Dr. Satir with the honorary degree in recognition of her many contributions to Danish science. Through the Scandinavian fellows and students from Denmark that she trained in her Einstein laboratory, as well as her ongoing collaborations with Danish scientists, Dr. Satir is renowned in her homeland as a pioneering woman in American research.
As she received her honor, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark greeted Dr. Satir. The royal family members are patrons of the University of Copenhagen, where Dr. Satir earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. She also is a member of the Danish Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences.
