Remembering Diane Belfer: Longtime Einstein Board Member and Philanthropist
It is with great sorrow that the College of Medicine acknowledges the passing of longtime Einstein Board member, Diane L. Belfer on January 2, 2022.
Diane was appointed to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Board in 1989. In addition to her 32 years of dedicated service on the board, she was a longtime member of Einstein’s Women’s Division.
Diane and her late husband Arthur Belfer were significant supporters of Einstein research. She and her family funded the Diane Belfer, Cypres & Endelson Families Faculty Scholar in Diabetes Research. The Belfers also endowed the Diane and Arthur B. Belfer Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research.
Our main education building—the Diane and Arthur B. Belfer Education Center—also bears their names and is a focal point of our administration and many campus activities. In addition, Arthur’s son, Robert A. Belfer, currently serves on the Einstein Board of Trustees.
Beyond her active role at Einstein, Diane was a director of the American Friends of the Israel Philharmonic, a board advisory committee member of the American Israel Culture Foundation, a life trustee of New York University, and an honorary member of Temple Emanu-El of Palm Beach, Florida. Diane attended the Calhoun School and received an honorary doctorate from Yeshiva University.
We extend our heartfelt sympathy and respect to the entire Belfer family. Diane will be deeply missed. If you’d like to share a remembrance of Ms. Belfer or leave a condolence message, please Leave a Remembrance.
